Book Review: “Ecce Homo” by Friedrich Nietzsche

I have read “Ecce Homo” by Friedrich Nietzsche and this article is my review of the book. “Ecce Homo” is the last original book written by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, and was published after the author’s death. It is a short read, but full of Nietzsche’s wisdoms and insights. As someone who is already familiar with Nietzsche’s philosophy, it was easy for me to understand Nietzsche while reading the book. However, if one is not already familiar with Nietzsche’s philosophy, it may be difficult to understand Nietzsche while reading “Ecce Homo”, as it is written in the style of a personal monologue that assumes prior knowledge of Nietzsche’s work, as well as knowledge of other philosophers and ideas, and other prior knowledge Nietzsche assumes from his readers.

It should be noted that “Ecce Homo” was originally written in German. I read the English translation. Because the two languages are similar, as they are both from the same Germanic language family, the book translates smoothly into English, and not much is lost in translation. German is also a language that is often used to convey thoughts and ideas explicitly and directly, which makes the English translation quite clear for readers.
